Positive Behaviour Support

This service outlines the possible supports for students with high-risk behaviour challenges where typical school based interventions have been exhausted. Our team uses PBIS and UDL principles to guide our practice.

Supports Offered:

 The Behaviour Support Team uses a PBIS Three-Tiered approach in collaboration and consultation with School-Based Teams:

    • Green Zone Interventions: School and class-wide systems for all students, staff, and settings.
    • Yellow Zone Interventions: Targeted group interventions for students at risk for behaviour.
    • Red Zone Interventions: Individualized and specialized interventions for high-risk behaviour.
  • Provide consultation and collaboration in re-assessing and planning alternative individual behaviour programs within the school and/or the school district regarding students displaying chronic high-risk behaviours.
  • Facilitating the Functional Analysis of Behaviour (FBA) and Behaviour Intervention Plan (BIP) process with school teams.
  • Participate with bi-annual District Behaviour Packages Review to help school teams establish current and evidence based behaviour interventions that also comply within Ministry of Education Special Ed. Criteria.

  6. Information sessions on the effects of trauma on the brain and ways to respond through classroom adaptations
  7. Applying attachment theory to classroom behavior strategies
  8. Self-Regulation in the classroom

Consultation Process:

  • Members of school-based teams can request support from the Learning Services Behaviour Support team. Typically, requests are made by school counsellors, school administrators, or team leaders of a school-based team.
  • When high-risk behavioural challenges are accompanied by diagnosed disabilities in sensory, cognitive and neurological areas, Learning Services will provide support on a case-by-case basis.
