School Psychology

The school psychology department located within Learning Services and serves all schools School District 60 (Peace River North)

ROLE

School Psychologists help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviourally, and emotionally. School Psychologists work with a school-based team to find the best solution for each child and situation. School Psychologists promote a Response to Intervention (RTI) model where students’ needs are addressed at the universal, targeted and intensive tiers and we are able to support classroom teachers in each tier.

Particular special needs are identified through formal psycho-educational assessment including specific learning disabilities and intellectual disabilities as well as screenings for autism and ADHD.

REFERRALS FOR SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY SERVICES

The school psychology department operates on a needs-based system, rather than a first come first serve basis. Referrals for school psychology services are first discussed with the school-based team at each school.
