English Language Learning

The English Language Learner Support teacher is responsible for assisting schools in providing for the educational needs of English Language Learners (ELLs).

Some of the services provided include:

Assessment of students who may be having difficulty in the classroom because their primary language is not English 

Assistance in the development of a program or an Annual Instruction Plan (AIP) for each student, in consultation with Classroom Teachers, Learning Assistance Teachers, students and parents

Work directly with students or small groups

Collaborate with on-site ELL teachers to support instructional plans of ELL students

Provide on-going professional development and inservices for ELL district teachers

Provide, on request, training and in-service to school staffs working with ELL students;

  • Promote a positive attitude within SD 60 towards multiculturalism in general, and towards ELL students in particular.
